cleaning quartz worktops

You have just spent out a lot of money getting your dream worktops but unsure how to care for them? Don’t worry cleaning quartz worktops is quick and simples.

Cleaning Quartz Worktops

Daily Cleaning

Daily cleaning quartz worktops is a simple task. Wiping it down once a day with some warm soapy water and buffing if off with a tea towel is more than good enough. When should you do it? Well, whenever suits you. We suggest that cleaning your quartz worktops is best done after using the area. We do not recommend leaving crumbs or other substances on your stone for a long period of time. If anything acidic like wine, lime, coffee or spices is left on your surface for too long it will begin to eat into the stone. It is not necessary to clean all off your worktops every day, cleaning the area that has been used is more important. Just don’t leave it too long, it is not good for dust and crumbs to sit on the stone. Staying on top of cleaning will help keep you stone look as good as the day it was installed. You don’t have to spend hours and hours cleaning the worktops, it just wouldn’t make sense to be used in a kitchen. Just if you make a mess, clean it up as soon as possible.

Does it stain?

Because of the way that Quartz is manufactured it contains a percentage of resign. The resign makes the stone non-porous so you don’t have to worry about it soaking up liquids. But anything acidic will try and eat into your stone over time. Don’t panic, just wipe away and you will be fine. If you have too much wine with your friends, don’t panic, just try and remove them from the surface, putting the glasses in the sink is a good option.  Spillages will not cause your any problems if they are cleaned up swiftly. Rust is another substance that will stain your tops. Sometimes from older pans or lids. After you wash them up the rusty water my rundown onto the worktops, again just clean up as soon as possible.

Stubborn Marks

Even though quartz worktops are stains resistant that does not mean that sometimes you will have a mark that won’t go with soapy water. Cif cream is magical for getting rid of any marks. Cif cream and a non-scratch scouring pad will get rid of most marks. Do not use Cif constantly, overtime the Cif will create a waxy layer, this will make your stone look hazy in light. It will also cost you a lot of money to keep buying more products so just use soapy water. Another common mark found on lighter quartz are little grey/black marks on the edge. These will most likely come from belt buckles. It happens all the time from people leaning over and grabbing stuff from the worktops. Again, just use warm soapy water or if it is not coming off with that use the Cif cream.

Finding the right products for cleaning quartz worktops

There is no “right” product for cleaning quartz worktops. Everyone has different preferences on what they believe works. Warm soapy water and a tea towel is all we recommend, it is cost effective so does that is required. We also recommend the Cif cream but only if it is necessary. Never, ever use strong chemicals like bleach hydrochloric acid and paint stripper. These will strip your stones polish and will be irreversible. Granite and Marble cleaners are also advised to stay away from. Granite and marble cleaners can be more aggressive than a quartz is.
